kings river water well drilling

A life-sustaining resource for millions, the Kings River sparkles through the Central Valley of California with energy all its own. Meandering through the Sierra Nevada mountains for 150+ miles, this essential waterway later joins with the San Joaquin to supply irrigation to agricultural lands and potable substances quenching the thirst of over one million citizens.

The Kings River has faced mounting pressure due to the ever-growing needs of both rural farms and urban areas. With the water levels dropping significantly during the hot summer days, the Kings River Water District has created an innovative strategy to combat this issue – increasing the river’s resources through the construction of new wells.

Centered in the Kings River floodplain and tapping into its plentiful groundwater supply, the envisioned wells would offer between 50 and 100 million gallons of water daily, all available to bolster the river’s flow during peak consumption periods.

Drilling for new wells has always been a point of contention because of fears for the environment and those who inhabit it. It is speculated that the abyssal boreholes might reduce the aquifer level, leading to geological repercussions like chasms. Furthermore, over-extraction of water could potentially undo Mother Nature’s delicate balance and cause tremors.

To understand the potential repercussions of the pending wells, the Kings River Water District is currently immersed in environmental impact studies. Once the analysis is done, the data will be poured over to assert whether the wells should be dug.

New well drilling is a critical element in safeguarding a vibrant and prosperous Kings River. This essential measure will supply plentiful quantities of water, an advantage that will stretch to both agriculturalists and citizens of the city alike; thus, preserving the river’s biosphere.
