water well driller training

A well is drilled into the ground in order to access and harness underground water. To ensure the stability of the chosen depths, a casing – made from a resilient pipe – is inserted into the hole. With a high-powered pump, water can be readily drawn from the well.

Well-trained professionals in the art of water well drilling are essential to ensure that wells are drilled and set up correctly. Additionally, these experts must have an understanding of the local geology and hydrology so that the ideal spot for a well is chosen.

Boring a water well is a process that involves four fundamental steps: first, using a drill rig, a hole is bored into the earth; second, a protective encasement is fitted within the aperture; third, an additional hole for the pump is burrowed further down; and finally, the well must be completed and the liquid therein examined and approved.

Unearthing the Cavity

To begin the process of installing a water well, a drill rig is used to churn out a hollow within the earth’s surface. This apparatus is equipped with steel-made rotary tools, designed with sharpened edges sharp enough to penetrate tough rock.

Fastened atop a wheeled trailer or truck, the drill rig is outfitted with a drill bit affixed to the end of a lengthy steel pipe. This aptly named ‘drill stem’ is then plunged into the borehole, and the drill rig is employed to rotate it.

As the drill bit burrows its way into the rocky terrain, a tunnel is crafted. Once the drill stem has been extracted from the space, a securing casing is inserted tightly in its place.

Securing the Enclosure

The borehole is secured with an encasement, crafted from either steel or PVC and featuring numerous minute openings, so as to permit the passage of water. This prevents any collapse along its length.

With the assistance of the drill rig, the casing is carefully lowered into the hole until it comes into contact with the bottom. After being fastened to the drill rig, its motion is initiated, spelling out a continuous rotary motion that ends with its secure insertion into the ground.

Lowering the casing into the drilled hole, the drill stem is then positioned, requiring the drill rig to penetrate farther down.

Delving Beneath the Surface and Embedding the Water Pump

With the deepening of the hole, a pump is installed within the casing to draw in the water from underneath. This pump is essential for taking the water from the well.

To install the pump, secure it to the casing, then position into the hole utilizing the drill rig. As it is rotated by the drill rig, this will cause it to sink into the ground.

After the pump has been securely installed, the drill stem is extracted and the borehole is officially finished.

Finishing the Well and Assessing the Water Quality

Once the well is satisfied, its water undergoes an assessment to determine its drinkability. The liquid mush also be analyzed to ensure no undesired minerals or particles are present.

Once the quality of the water has been confirmed, a cap is put in place to secure it and render it ready for use. However, if the water is deemed unsuitable, the well is permanently abandoned and sealed shut.
