youtube how to drill a water well
Although it might be hard to believe, water well drilling has been practiced for thousands of years. The earliest water wells likely used primitive tools such as shovels and picks, and had to be dug by hand. Fast forward to present day and we now have advanced machinery capable of digging deep underground to find desired water sources.
Many drill wells for various purposes. Some install them to provide water for buildings or offices, others to meet the irrigation requirements, and some with objectives of studying the environmental or scientific approach to groundwater.
Identifying the proper location for a water well is the basic requirement for correctly drilling one. This typically entails conducting a soil test to unearth the optimum position. Subsequently, a hole is dug sufficiently large enough to accommodate the machine which will bore and construct the well. In other words, it is essential to do the preparation and groundwork before beginning to carve out this vital water source.
Once the drill bit has done its job, a length of pipe is placed within the hole to form a casing. It is essential that the material selected for use in this process will not succumb to corrosion and other damaging factors. Steel is typically chosen for this purpose, due to its impermeable properties.
After the borders of the water well have been secured, the actual drilling commences. The drill bit is trepanned onto the extremity of the drill pipe and carefully positioned into the pre-dug hole. As it slowly rotates, the bit cuts through the geological layers, dislodging sediment up through the hollow drill pipe and towards the surface.
The drill bit descends further and further as more drill pipe is connected. By doing this, the mounting pressure on the drill pipe below the surface is offloaded. If drastic pressure is not managed, the drill pipe will ultimately fracture and become unusable.
The drill bit eats its way into the depth required before its extracted from the hole. Over the tip of the pipe, a fine sieve is then positioned. Its perforations permit water to wend into the casing but provide a barrier that obstructs soil and rocks from doing likewise.
To finish off the water well, cement is poured into the gaps between the outer casing and the drilled hole. After the cement has solidified, the construction of this traditional source of hydration is officially sealed.
