youtube water well drilling
Through the process of water well drilling, a borehole is made in the ground to access subterranean water. The hole created is reinforced by a tin or pipe-like structure to make sure no collapse occurs during the production of the well. It is possible to achieve this using manual labor or a mechanical apparatus.
Unearthing the location of a water table is the initial process when drilling a water well. This water table exists as the highest level of groundwater and its depth from the surface can range considerably, normally settling between 10 and 100 feet below. After pinpointing its position, a hole can then be bored to the required depth.
To avoid caving, a tube or casing is set into the gap. This layer is crafted from steel, yet can be fashioned from PVC. After it is positioned, the space between the tubing and the hole is cemented up to make a tight seal.
Once it is settled, a sieve is pushed into the gap, trapping sediment and other bits of debris which would otherwise make their way into the well. This catch-net also helps bear the strain and pressure of the waters drawn up during extraction.
Once the screen is affixed, it’s time to commence drilling. From there, a drill bit is coupled with a drill pipe and thrust deeply into the well. As the drill bit coerces its way through stone and soil, it creates a cavity wider than the width of the drill pipe in its wake. In this way, a tunnel is formed out of bedrock and earth.
From a couple of hours up to a couple of days, drilling a well can take its toll on any project. After that, the drill pipe is taken away and replaced with a pump, meant to retrieve the water from the depths of the well and transfer it either to a storage tank or straight to the end user – be it a residence or business.
Ancient cultures have long accessed groundwater through the process of drilling wells, a task that can be achieved either manually or with modern machinery. Usually, these efforts are disposed of, taking a few hours to a few days.
